Professor Kyung Kyu Kim of the Department of Precision Medicine, Sungkyunkwan University College of Medicine, received the Minister’s Commendation at the ‘2021 Ministry of Science and ICT Basic Research Promotion Award Ceremony’ held at Kintex on December 23, 2021.

The government award is organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT to commend researchers who have made outstanding achievements in the development of national science and technology through the promotion of domestic basic research and creation of excellent research results.

Professor Kyung Kyu Kim is a nucleic acid biochemist who studies the structure and function of nucleic acids, and is a world-class authority on atypical nucleic acids having a structure different from the well-known double-helical structure of B-DNA.

Professor Kyung Kyu Kim not only studies on the quadruple helix structure, but also publishes research results on new, previously unknown atypical nucleic acid structures in the journal Nucleic Acids Research, the most prestigious academic journal in the field of nucleic acids.
