A joint research team led by Professor Chang-Woo Lee (first author: Eun-Ji Park and Dr. Hyun-Soo Kim) has identified the regulatory mechanism of the Ssu72 gene, a dephosphorylation enzyme essential for energy metabolism regulation in brown fat. The team found that Ssu72 is specifically expressed higher in brown adipocytes than in other white adipocytes and plays a crucial role in regulating body temperature and mitochondrial energy metabolism. The research provides new potential targets for the treatment of various metabolic diseases related to fat metabolism. The study was published in the journal Nature Communications (IF: 17.694).
