Dissertation Submission Qualification Examination (Dissertation Defense) The Foreign Language Examination / Major Examination is a dissertation submission qualification examination that must be passed before the main examination of the dissertation to obtain a degree.

Major Examination

 

(Required)

- Masters: 15 credits or more

- Doctorate: 27 credits or more

- Integrated: 39 credits or more

Grade average of B or above

 - Completed safety training every semester

Foreign Language Test Information

1. Subjects: English (*Certified English score report valid for 2 years)

2. Passing standard: 70 points or more out of 100 points

3. Exemption application (eligibility criteria)

- TOEFL IBT score of 79 or higher , PBT score of 550 or higher , CBT score of 213 or higher

- TOEIC 700 or higher - TEPS 700 or higher (New TEPS 386 or higher)

- OPIc IM2 or above - IELTS 6.0 or above

- G-TELP Level 2 score of 60 or above or Level 3 score of 80 or above

- Have published a paper as the first author in an SCI(E) journal (Masters program only) * Not accepted for publication

* From 2017-1 application, integrated / doctoral programs cannot be exempted.

- Masters degree students who have taken the foreign language test substitute course offered by Sungkyunkwan Language Institute and passed the test.

 

*Even if you are eligible to apply for an exemption, you must apply for an offline exemption separately during the test period!

* Procedure for applying for an exemption: After applying for the foreign language test on GLS, the applicant must fill out the [Foreign Language Test Exemption Application Form (Appendix No. 2)] and submit it to the administration office along with the relevant supporting documents (certified transcripts).

 

4. Application procedure

- Students who wish to take the foreign language test must apply directly to GLS by the deadline .

* Held once every semester; if you fail, you must retake the test in the next semester.

Major Examinations

1. Subjects to be taken: 1 course from the common required courses (* 2 courses until the second semester of 2013)

2. passing standard: 70 points or more out of 100 points

3. Eligibility

- Those who have earned at least the number of credits specified below in each degree program and have an average grade of B or higher.

*Masters program: 15 or more credits (usually taken in the third semester)

*Doctoral program: 27 credits or more (usually taken in the 4th semester) Take the test as QE

*Integrated program: 39 credits or more (normally taken in 6 semesters) Take the exam as QE

- Submission of safety education certificate every semester of the period

* From March 2021, you must take the test once every semester after enrollment until the main examination.

 

4. Application procedure

- Candidates for the major examination must apply directly to GLS within the deadline and take the examination .

The test is held once every semester, and if you fail, you must retake the test in the next semester.

- Those who fail the major exam can retake the exam in the following semester for the failed subject.
