We have focused on disease modeling through human pluripotent stem cell (embryonic stem cell and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC))-derived hematopoiesis and bone marrow organoids to understand pathogenic mechanisms of blood diseases and blood cancer-related disorders. Hematopoiesis occurs by the self-division and differentiation of hematopoietic stem progenitor cells (HSPCs) in the bone marrow, of which research can be applied to 1) understand the regulation of composition and function of bone marrow/immune cells in the immune system, blood, and peripheral organs, and 2) identify the pathogenesis of incurable blood diseases to develop disease-specific drugs and cell therapies.
